Among the 16 artists in the exhibition “ Welcome to Parkview Green III - Parkview contemporary art collection ” ,the work of the American artist David Salle titled “ The Mica Field” presents a fascinating visual repertoire characterized by the “bold and fancy” technique of Juxtaposition. “The Mica Field” is one of the most representative artwork of David Salle as it is the embodiment of the juxtaposition technique: in the painting, the artist combines the portrait of a sensual female figure, painted in black and white, slightly faded and with contrasting contours with the representation of everyday objects form advertisement and consumer culture. His art challenges the possibility for the audience to establish semantic connections between symbols, images, and meanings, providing the viewers with a large space for free interpretation.
"Juxtaposition" will be the theme of this public education event. This course will explore the art history and theory, techniques and other specific fields of knowledge, leading the participants to delve into the unique and complex art of juxtaposition. Challenging the boundaries of traditional thinking system, the event will promote a reconfiguration of the definition of concreteness and pattern. At the same time, the participants will have the opportunity to create a unique juxtaposition- based artwork, taking as the starting point the topic and the material provided by the museum’s researchers.
