Wang Luyan
Now /Lives and works in Beijing, China
“Wang Luyan's linear, drawing-like, precisely executed, impersonal and mechanical paintings seem to avoid any emotional, lyrical, or anecdotic subject matter as they unveil the irrational, pathologic, self-destructive tendencies behind the seemingly rational and controlled systems of power, defended by carefully manufactured arms, which—contrary to the expectations of their designers and users—are able to destroy their masters while they also destroying their victims. Wang Luyan operates with subversiveirony and sharp logic; his work is transparent, objective, clear anddemonstrative. He reveals the deadly contradiction of the paranoia of security, the perverse contradiction between transparency, rationality, objectivity and its hidden real objective, the destruction of the Other, which inevitably arrives at the destruction of the Self. It is precisely through this objective transparency that he is able to manifest the hidden obscurity behind seemingly rational mechanisms.” (Lorand Hegyi)
